I fill sketchbooks with ideas for things that escape my words. I’m perennially fascinated by texture and pattern and symbolic language. I love visual research; I use drawing and computer to look more slowly and closely, to understand structure and mood and message. Pre-internet, I drew images from books and magazines. Now I draw, trace, cut, reshape and refit images from all the places the net reaches in search of the visual language that serves the work I’m making.

The images here come from a wide variety of samples. Some are pieces that occurred to me while working on an illustration commission, and some are the products of the commission that spawned those images. Some are paintings from different gallery shows. And some are responses to prompts from the art communities I situate myself within.
